IN THE NEWS – La Vida News “The Black Voice” –

Thom Brownlee, Jr. was born in New York , NY , and was reared mostly in the Bronx and Wilson , NC. He started playing professionally in a local band. Having to juggle football and sax all through high school, the same trend continued for (4) years while he pursued a Pre-Med Degree at Shaw University. Upon graduation, he attended UNC Medical School in Chapel Hill for an Allied Health Summer Program for minorities, then on to the U.S. Air Force for Officer Training/Pilot School. Much of Brownlee’s early experience has been production management with Corning Glass Works, General Motors, Texas Instruments, and Mostek. 

He found his niche as a Health Educator (HIV/AIDS) with the Dallas County Health Department for five and one-half years. He then ran the CASA, YMCA Shelter for runaway teens then returned to the Dallas County Health and Human Services as a Disease Intervention Specialist in the Tuberculosis DNA Fingerprint Study. 

After a brief stint with Our Brothers Keeper – NDUGU ( an adolescent drug treatment and counseling program), Brownlee began working and currently works with Richardson ISD teaching a set of autistic twins. There are several local bands that he helps promote, while keeping busy with his own groups all over the Metroplex. He is an active member of First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park, where Rev. Dr. Jessie Lee Foster is the pastor. Brownlee plays in the orchestra, works with the jail ministry, feeding the homeless, and is on the Debs, Beaus and Health Committee. He somehow finds time to be a photographer and coach on his daughter’s Under 7 – Soccer Team. La Vida News – The Black Voice commends Thom Brownlee, Jr. for all of his achievements. 

– January 28, 2006 The Dallas Metroplex Musicians Association, an affiliate of the National Association of Negro Musicians, Inc, awarded Mr. Thom Brownlee, Jr. at its 11th Annual Reception and Scholarship Luncheon on January 28, 2006 at the Renaissance Hotel with the prestigious "Hall of Fame" Award. Mr. Brownlee is very active within the DFW communities. This award was actually based upon Mr. Brownlee's distinguished service as a musician over the past years within the Dallas local area community. The annual scholarship luncheon benefits college music majors, and this continued event has helped enable DMAA to give over $16,000.00 in scholarships since its founding in 1985.
